Georgia: Ex-mayor of Tbilisi pelted with eggs

Giorgi Ugulava, the former mayor of Tbilisi and ranking member of the United National Movement political party founded by Mikheil Saakashvili, was pelted with a rain of eggs during a protest by members of the opposition Georgian Dream in Batumi on Thursday.

Ugulava was suspended from his elected position as mayor in December 2013, when a court brought charges of misuse of public funds against him. The politician was attending a hearing of the Constitutional Court in Batumi as part of a lawsuit he is bringing for improper removal of an elected official.
