      Germany: Kroes reiterates need for vigilance in light of spying

      The Vice President of the European Commission Neelie Kroes spoke about the alleged spying activities of US intelligence services carried out against the German Chancellor Angela Merkel's mobile phone during a talk at the CeBIT trade fair in Hanover, Monday. Kroes said that spying is now so widespread, it is important for all mobile users to be aware they could be being intercepted.

      The politician and digital specialist said that spying was nothing new, but that the scale of the surveillance enabled by technology was unprecedented.
