Ukraine: Verkhovna Rada's Soviet star removed
The Soviet-era star atop the spire of the Verkhovna Rada building was removed Tuesday in Kiev. A worker climbed to the top of the 40 metre tall (131-foot) building to remove the star under cloudy skies.
The current Verkhovna Rada building was rebuilt from 1945 to 1947 following its destruction during World War II. It is considered one of the finest examples of Ukrainian neoclassic architecture in the world today.
