Ukraine: Parliament cheer resignation of speaker 'due to illness'
Vice-speaker in Ukraine's parliament Roman Kashulinsky told fellow MPs at the emergency session of parliament on Saturday that speaker of the House and parliamentary president Vladimir Rybak had resigned.
Speaking to the lawmakers, Fatherland party deputy Oleksandr Turchynov said that as the country's interior minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko had "disappeared", and the whereabouts of President Viktor Yanukovych was unknown, parliament was currently the only legitimate authority in the country.
The opposition parties, 'UDAR' and 'Fatherland', have introduced a draft resolution, which demands the resignation of President Viktor Yanukovych. If the president immediately submits to the demand, an early presidential election would have to be held before May 25.
