Ukraine: Anti-government protesters meet - occupations coming to an end?
Thousands of protesters gathered on Independence Square for their weekly assembly or "veche" Sunday, where Svoboda party leader Oleh Tyahnybok and Batkivshchyna party leader Arseny Yatsenyuk spoke to the crowd.
Tyahnybok spoke about the demands of his party, saying their end goal is the complete transformation of the Ukrainian political system. Yatsenyuk appealed to what he termed the Ukrainian people's European friends, saying the movement needs help and action from Europe, not just words.
The protesters have gathered to discuss whether they should vacate all occupied buildings, with withdrawals from government buildings across Western Ukraine and in Kiev itself taking place Sunday. Leaving all occupied buildings is one of key demands of President Viktor Yanukovych, who has promised to grant them amnesty if they agree to the governments demands. The protesters, however, have so far only partially abdicated the governmental buildings, with around 100 protesters still in Kiev's City Hall, despite reports protesters have left entirely.
