Pakistan: Villagers gather outside slain anti-Taliban militia chief's house
Residents of Badaber town gathered outside the house of anti-Taliban militia chief Israrullah Khan on Wednesday, after unidentified militants reportedly killed him and eight members of his family.
A purported eye-witness said that militants cordoned off the house, desecrated the Quran when it was brought out by the female relatives of Khan and abducted all of the family members.
Police report that twenty-five militants shot eight people and destroyed the house with hand grenades. Zafrullah Kahn, a family member of Khan and also a militia leader was killed in a similar attack earlier in February. The anti-Taliban militant groups, known locally as peace committees, are armed and funded by the Pakistani government to fight the Taliban. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
