Spain: New abortion law sparks mass protest in Madrid
Thousands of pro-abortion demonstrators marched against a new "anti-abortion" law in the Spanish capital of Madrid on Saturday. The protesters' held banners and placards and demanded the resignation of Spanish Justice Minister Joseé Alberto Ruiz Gallardon.
Lucia, a journalist, drawing a parallel with the situation under Spain's former dictator Francisco Franco, said: "It'll be practically impossible to have an abortion so Spanish women will have to travel to London for an abortion as happened under "Franquismo" and the only people who'll be able to afford it are those who have money."
Under the new laws, women will only be able to have an abortion in the case of rape, serious foetal deformity or if the pregnancy poses a health risk to the mother.
