Belgium: European lawmakers discuss NSA spy scandal
Members of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee discussed the impact on EU citizens' rights following the NSA spying revelations, in Brussels on Thursday.
Anna Maria Corazza Bildt, Swedish MEP and member of the committee said Europe needs to develop independent technology for data protection, yet said the USA should not be excluded in this field if the nation knows of better ways to protect people's data from government spying.
Dutch MEP Jan Mulder asserted the USA was to blame many of the NSA revelations and wanted Europe to advance with its own information gathering technology to beat terrorism.
