Ukraine: Thousands rally to support government
Around 40,000 people rallied in support of the Ukrainian government at the Nakhimov square in Sevastopol on Tuesday. The Party of Regions called on people to protest against the riots in Kiev and the occupations of administrative buildings across the country.
Vyacheslav Bebnev, a Cossack at the rally, said: "Cossacks are here because they care about their country. We want order and peace in our city. We don't want to see Nazis in the government. We want our children to live in a peaceful city. And we want to be worthy of our ancestors."
"We will only use legitimate methods; there will be no weapons used. We will only squeeze out rioters and prevent them from seizing the city hall and other administrative buildings," he continued.
Local residents supported the resolution of the city council to ban Sevastopol's "Freedom" party and other nationalist movements in the region.
