Ukraine: Protest dead honoured with makeshift memorials
Two memorials were set up at Grushevskogo street in Kiev on Monday, the scene of some of the most violent clashes between the police and protesters. The makeshift monuments commemorate those hurt and killed during demonstrations.
One of the memorials is made of a piece of barricade and holds a sign stating "Heroes of Maidan" attached to paper boxes. It is decorated with the shattered goggles of a protester who was hit in the face by a pellet which went through his plastic glasses.
The other memorial is placed at the beginning of Grushevskogo street, where protesters stop to say their prayers. Some bring flowers or rosaries, and light up candles when the night falls.
