Russia: Epic reenactment marks 70 years since lifting of Siege of Leningrad
Hundreds participated in an epic historical reenactment on Sunday, marking the 70th anniversary of the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad. To commemorate the event, authorities reconstructed the first battle of the liberation campaign from the Nazi siege. The over 900 day long siege is estimated to have resulted in the deaths of over 800,000 people.
The battle was held on a bridge of Porozhki village, the exact spot of the first battle in January 1944. During the reconstruction, actors used T-34 tanks alongside the world's only replica of a German self-propelled artillery Marder 2D to create a realistic battle.
