According to the Syrian army, an attack on Damascus from the south was stopped on Sunday, which killed several militants. After the clashes the Syrian Army found confiscated arms including RPGs and AK-47s.
Government forces say it was the first militant attack on Damascus in months, and it was timed to coincide with the Geneva II peace conference, which is currently underway in Switzerland.
The attack was launched from the Kaddam area, approximately ten kilometres south of Damascus. The clashes cut off a strategic highway connecting Damascus and Daraa, a city close to the border with Jordan.
