Austria: One-tonne gold Aussie dollar coin on Euro tour

The world's largest coin, a pure gold Australian $1 piece, valued at more than $50m (€37m) and weighing in at 1,000 kg (2,200 lbs), went on display at the Viennese Art History Museum for a four-day exhibit in the Austrian capital.

The coin, which measures 80 cm (31 in) in diameter and is more than 12 cm (4.7 in) deep, was crafted in Australia by Perth Mint and holds the Guinness World Record, measured at one tonne of 99.00 % pure gold.

After Vienna, the coin will continue it's journey throughout European cities including Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne and Berlin, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin programme.
