Seven gunmen were shot to death during a special operation following Friday's bombing in Dagestan, in the Semender settlement of Makhachkala's suburb, the National Antiterrorism Committee announced, Saturday.
After multiple arrests authorities ascertained that suspects involved in Friday's grenade attack in the region were hiding-out in a house on Krasnodarskaya Street.
Gunmen made two attempts to shoot their way out during the ensuing gunfight that broke out once security forces had surrounded the property, both were suppressed. A woman and three children were allowed to leave the house safely before shooting began.
Makhmud Aliev, who was newly appointed as head of the Mahkachkala gang three days ago, and 26-year-old Zaira Alieva, who was being prepped for a suicide bombing, are reportedly among the slain.
