Cuba: Fidel Castro makes first public appearance in 9 months
Former President and Prime Minister of Cuba, Fidel Castro, attended the opening of an art studio in Havana on Wednesday. The Kcho estudio Romerillo, Laboratorio para el arte’s inauguration was held to mark the 55th anniversary of Castro’s entry into the Cuban capital following the triumph of the revolution.
Greeting members of the public who came out in their droves to see him, this was the first public appearance made by the 87-year-old since April.
A central figure in the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro was at the helm of Cuban politics for 48 years. He formally relinquished his responsibilities as president to his brother, Raul, in 2008 because of health problems.
