France: Goodyear workers free manager hostages, burn factory stock
Two kidnapped factory managers who had been detained since Monday by striking workers and union members at an Amiens Goodyear tire plant were released Tuesday. The release came as part of ongoing strike action to broker a better dismissal agreement for workers at the soon to close factory.
The striking workers willingly released the two managers after senior Goodyear company bosses refused to negotiate a dismissal agreement while the two regional managers, Bernard Glesser and Michel Dheilly, were held hostage.
Once the two men had left the factory premises, striking workers began burning tires from inside the factory, which contains a stock worth thousands of euros.
