Central African Republic: WFP send food aid to displaced families
The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) distributed food to displaced citizens in war torn Bangui on December 21, after conflict in the Central African Republic has driven hundreds of thousands of people from their homes.
A WFP chartered Boeing 747 plane arrived at Bangui airport on December 19, carrying 45 tons of WFP logistics equipment and 17.3 tons of food.
Food prices have soared as result of the ongoing conflict, with corn prices rising by 31 percent over the course of the year, according to the WFP.
African Union and French troops are battling to end the Christian-Muslim conflict that has taken over the country. Just two days of violence that took place in early December left 1000 people dead.
