Bulgaria: Anti-refugee protests rattle northern town
About 1,000 people gathered in the northern Bulgarian town of Telish on Sunday, to oppose the government's plans to set up a refugee centre at the town's former military barracks. The town's mayor spoke out against the refugee centre during the rally.
Having given up on their initial plans to block railroad tracks, the protesters built a barricade across the road between Sofia and the city of Pleven, blocking it for around 20 minutes.
The country's interior minister, Tsvetlin Yovchev met the residents of Telish on Tuesday reassuring them that the proposed refugee centre will no pose a threat to them. Protesters plan to write to the country's prime minister and president to stop the plans.
