UK: Austerity bonfire sees protesters burn energy bills at houses of parliament

Campaigners from the People's Assembly Against Austerity held a national day of protest Tuesday at Westminster Bridge in London, coinciding with Guy Fawkes Night. Protesters ceremonially burned their energy bills to deliver a message to the government.

The activists said they wanted to highlight the human cost of government cuts which they claim has resulted in local services being decimated, jobs being lost, wages frozen and benefits for those in need drastically reduced.

Forty towns and cities across the UK took part in similar demonstrations as part of the anti-austerity campaign.
