Russia: Homeland honoured by Putin for National Unity Day
Russian president Vladimir Putin attended a National Unity Day reception on Monday, along with the Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow. The president told the audience that Russia was open for anyone who considered Russia their homeland.
National Unity Day was instituted in 2005 in commemoration of the events of 1612, when militia under the guidance of Pozharsky and Minin liberated Moscow from foreign invaders.
