Egypt: Loyal Morsi supporters attack state press at trial

Supporters of deposed President Mohammed Morsi pelted crews working for Egyptian state TV with solid objects Monday in a series of altercations that took place near the courthouse where Morsi had been standing trial. Camera operators were forcibly prevented from filming and made to relinquish their equipment.

A Cairo judge adjourned the trial of ousted President Mohammed Morsi shortly after it began, because defendants had disrupted proceedings with their chanting and the deposed president himself had showed defiance in court. Morsi insists he is still the lawful president of Egypt, and reportedly told the judge that the "trial is illegitimate." He also refuses to wear prison-issue clothing.

Morsi and 14 others stand accused of inciting murder. During the unrest that saw SCAF oust the president, Morsi rallied his supporters, encouraging them to confront his opposition. In the violence that ensued following the removal of Morsi on July 3, over 100 were injured and at least two had died by the end of July 4.
