Australia: Bushfire smoke clouds engulf NSW

Plumes of smoke from what has been called the worst bushfires in over a decade billowed above Springwood township in the state of New South Wales on Thursday. Around 100 fires raged across the state, causing power cuts and road closures.

Hundreds of houses were lost across the state, with around 30 in Springwood alone. Springwood is located in the Blue Mountains, some 70 kilometres away from Sydney.
