Russia: Hundreds of iPhones smuggled into Moscow
A passenger trying to smuggle new iPhone 5 smartphones was detained by authorities after arriving by plane in Moscow from the US on September 25. Sheremetyevo customs service detained the passenger, and seized 30 boxes of gray mobiles said to be from the latest iPhone range.
It is estimated that the detained batch is worth around 2.5 million rubles (around €57000) on the market. To determine the authenticity of the phones, the mobiles have been confiscated and detained for examination.
The iPhone 5S and 5C models were unveiled on September 12, and officially launched later that month on the 21st in the US, however no official release date has been announced yet in Russia, and the mobiles are currently not on sale in the country.
