Greece: Golden Dawn party deputy faces criminal charges
Golden Dawn party deputy leader Christos Pappas left the premises of Evelpidon courthouse in Athens on Sunday evening, after hearing charges against him for belonging to a criminal organisation. Pappas was escorted back to the Attica General Police Directorate (GADA) in a vehicle after being taken to another courthouse.
The trial of Pappas and five other Golden Dawn members begins on Tuesday. The Greek anti-terror police arrested leader Nikolaos Michaloliakos on Saturday morning in relation to weapons found at his home and connections to criminal activity. Prime Minister Antonis Samaras held emergency talks at the weekend with public order and justice ministers over the far-right group.
