      USA: Police on alert following Navy Yard shooting

      USA: Police on alert following Navy Yard shooting

      Police presence in the American capital remains high following a gunmen opening fire on personnel and killing at least 13 in a military complex in Washington DC on Monday.

      So far at least 13 people are said to have been slain by an unknown number of gunmen, though one shooter is reported to have been killed. Authorities fear that accomplices may still remain at large.

      The dead gunman has been identified by the FBI as 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, a native of Brooklyn who until recently lived in Texas.
