USA: Taking the pigs - bikers bring pork to rile Muslims
As part of thousands of motorcyclists' counter-protest in Washington DC, Wednesday, pork vendors emerged to rile the Muslims who came to the capital to protest.
The March Against Fear turned out far smaller than anticipated, with no more than a few hundred participants at its height. Speakers took to the stage to stand against Obama's proposal to strike Syria, as well as economic deprivation and anti-Muslim sentiment in the country. Organisers allowed people from the counter-protest to take the microphone, with one using the opportunity to speak against Islam. He was invited to return next year.
In opposition a "2 Million Biker Ride" came to the nation's capital, despite being denied protest permits. Part of their contingent was the pork vendors, who made their intentions pretty clear: "We are here to stand up, we are the American people, we are proud of who we are and we also got a nice little march going on over there for the Muslims. It's 12 years later and I haven't forgotten."
Police kept the groups apart until each of the protests dissipated.
