USA: Obama's address fails to impress anti-war protesters
Members from the anti-war organization CodePink rallied outside the White House on Tuesday in response to President Barack Obama's speech to the nation. A banner of lights lit up the night with the message "No war on Syria" while protesters urged the President to take a diplomatic alternative over military intervention.
During the speech Obama said he had asked Congress to postpone a vote for military action in Syria, to give the diplomatic track a chance. Members of the organization expressed their disappointment at his short speech and vowed to continue their movement against the administration's drive to war.
One CodePink activist said: "So tonight when the President gave a speech, he tried to sell us a war in Syria, and i'm not buying it, and the American people aren't buying it. And we really think he needs to exhaust all diplomatic options before he pursues any military strike."
CodePink is widely known for their anti-war activism. Last Friday, they interrupted Secretary of State John Kerry as the Senate held a hearing on the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government. They have been vocal against U.S. intervention in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya and their stance on Palestine.
