Australia: Assange's running mate casts his vote for WikiLeaks

Julian Assange's running mate in the Australian Federal Senate Election, Binoy Kampmark, cast his vote for the Wikileaks Party in Melbourne on Saturday. Binoy, a lecturer at the RMIT University in Melbourne, could take the place of Julian Assange if the WikiLeaks Party founder is not able to secure passage to Australia before July 1 - assuming he wins a seat.

Kampmark introduced the party he represents, saying, "So the WikiLeaks party itself is an experiment in democracy in the true sense; we believe in transparency, accountability and justice. It is the idea, originally, of Julian Assange, who is in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London. I'm running as his running mate, in the seat for Victoria, for the Senate seat in the Federal Parliament."

"The important thing to remember here is that we're interested in rolling back the surveillance state," he added.

According to the WikiLeaks Party website, the party needs to secure over 4 percent of the vote in order to ensure itself a secure financial position to continue its work.
