Greece: Police and security services strike as austerity bites
Around 600 police officers, fire-fighters, coast guards and security personnel went on strike on Friday evening against the Greek government's austerity plans.
Armed with banners, posters and chants, the security forces pushed their way through Thessaloniki's old city centre, to the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace.
The protests were galvanised by the proposed restructuring of the Greek police and the tenuous work conditions junior employees face.
The protest took place nation-wide, but Thessaloniki was the country's centre-point. Some protesters came in groups by buses from other parts of Greece to join their colleagues in solidarity.
