Russia: British Airways 747 makes emergency Siberian landing
A Boeing 747 jet belonging to British Airways was forced to make an emergency landing in Irkutsk, Siberia on Wednesday. BA flight 039 took off from London Heathrow and was supposed to land in Beijing Capital International, but suffered a software malfunction in the avionics system.
The plane landed 40 minutes after the initial request from the pilot to bring the plane down in Irkutsk.
The passengers are being put up in city hotels while the airline arranges their onward travel. Reports say that there were about 270 passengers and 16 crew on board the aircraft.
