Russia: Putin speaks about Navalny trial verdict

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the trial of Alexei Navalny during his visit to the Seliger youth camp in Tver on Friday. Putin, who arrived via a Be-200 amphibious aircraft, said that he is surprised by the court decision, which found Navalny guilty of corruption on a large scale.

Vladimir Putin said "As for the verdict, believe me, I don't keep an eye on it daily. I admit, it seemed strange to me- that one of those involved in this case, who started to collaborate with investigators got 4,5 years suspended sentence, and the other one, the one you mentioned- a 5 year sentence."

Navalny has received a 5 year sentence for embezzlement of funds in a state-owned timber company.

The Russian President visited the camp to meet young party members and activists, discussing start-ups, politics and promoting healthy lifestyles and education with them during meetings at the summer camp.
