UK: Love got dirty as humans "charm" worms
For the 33rd time the World Worm Charming Championship took place. As always the tournament was being held in the village of Willaston, Cheshire in the United Kingdom with competitors competing for a trophy in the shape of a golden rampant worm.
It has been 33 years since Tom Shufflebotham, a local Willaston farmer's son, became the first world champion after he charmed 511 worms out of the ground in half an hour. His record has remained unbroken for 29 years until 2009 when two competitors managed to charm 567 worms.
The International Federation of Charming Worms and Allied Pastimes (IFCWAP) is the regulatory body that decided a total of 18 rules defining how a worm can be charmed.
