France: Paris Air Show armed to the teeth
Laser guided bombs and rockets, missiles, launchers, torpedoes, machine guns and many other weapons systems stood on display at the Paris Air Show on Thursday.
Private, corporate, and governmental clients were able to see a broad spectrum of armaments for air, land, maritime, coastal and underwater use. Weapons systems included air defence systems, missile defence systems, aircraft and helicopter rocket systems, and more traditional weaponry.
Global players like EADS, Thales, and MBDA presented their deadly wares next to specialised weapons manufacturers. Aircraft and helicopter manufacturers exhibited near the munitions giants in order to display the variety of armament combinations each aircraft could support.
Although annual sales reached above $400 billion (€303.6 bn) in 2012, analysts predict the weapons industry to grow despite budgetary pressures from the European crisis or austerity movements.
EADS, an European joint venture, sold arms and munition for more than 16 Billion US Dollars in 2012.
