Russia: All work and no swimsuit for UN's Ban Ki-Moon
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the southern Russian resort of Sochi on Friday 17 May. Moon's official visit is expected to last till May 19, with talks expected to focus on the situation in Syria and Russia's role in international affairs.
Ban lightened the mood, beginning the session with a comment about Sochi's beach life, saying: "My only regret is I have to work, rather than do some relaxing here. You told me, you asked me to bring swimsuit to enjoy swimming and politics at the Black Sea, but I'm sorry that we have to work".
Talks in Sochi are reportedly addressing the Middle Eastern region as a whole, North Africa, the Korean Peninsula, the Iranian nuclear programme, the Mali conflict, the Cyprus settlement, as well as the UN's coordinating role in the fight against terrorism.
