Sweden: Israel host Eurovision pre party
Around 500 people attended a Eurovision pre warming party hosted by the Israeli delegation in Malmo on Monday. The event welcomed various artists including Germany's Cascada who will represent Germany in the 2013 edition of Eurovision.
Israeli contestant Moran Mazor is excited to participate in Eurovision 2013. "I am in such a young age and I really wasn't expecting to win the pre-Eurovision contest in Israel, I am so excited, I have been blessed."
The first Eurovision took place on 24 May 1956 and became one of the longest running television shows in the world since. Every year an estimated 125 million viewers watch the Eurovision thereby making it a European tradition.
Until the 2013 edition more than 1,000 songs already have competed in the Eurovision. Ireland has been the most succesful participant in Eurovision until now. With 7 victories the Irish beat Luxembourg, France, Sweden and the United Kingdom who all won 5 times.
In 2008 and 2011 a record number of 43 countries participated. This year, 26 countries will qualify for the Grand Final which will take place on Saturday 18 May. The first Semi-Final of the contest will be broadcast live in 20 countries represented in the show and several other nations. 16 countries have artists competing in the first Semi-Final, as ten spots for the Final are at stake. Professional juries and viewers each have a 50 percent stake in the outcome, with the jury featuring six members in each country. After the songs have been performed, the televoting window will be opened.
Denmark are the bookies favourite to win this year's contest. Norway, The Netherlands, Sweden and Russia would complete the top-5. In the last ten years, bookmakers have predicted 9 of the ten winners.
