Cuba: Cubans mourn Chavez at Havana memorial
Tens of thousands of Cubans flocked to a memorial in Havana on Thursday to mourn the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. For hours, islanders lined up in a queue that filed through Revolution Square.
While some saluted the photo a Chavez above a bed of white flowers, other cried "Long live Chavez" when exiting the memorial.
First elected in 1998, Chavez was instrumental in securing aid for Cuba following the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Venezuelan president died in Caracas on Tuesday, after a two-year battle with cancer, during which he received treatment in Cuban hospitals.
Mourners may soon have the opportunity to pay their respects in person, as plans are for Chavez to be embalmed and his body be put on permanent display.
