UK: Cat born missing front leg bones to receive life-changing op
Harvey, a four-month-old kitten from Glasgow born without bones in his front paws, is to receive life-changing surgery after more than 3,500 pounds (4,000 euros) were raised for him online.
Harvey suffers an extremely rare condition called Radial Agenesis, where bones fail to develop. The disorder is only known to have been found in four cats in Scotland in the last 30 years.
After Harvey's original owner sold him online, the well-wishing buyers passed him on to the care of Cats Protection, an animal charity.
The organisation found a foster home for the kitten with 50-year-old Glaswegian Liz McCulloch. Because Harvey is in danger of damaging his spine as he grows bigger he needs surgery. Through an online fundraiser, 3,500 pounds were collected to fund the operation.
When Harvey is six months old, metal pins will be implanted into his front legs, giving him the ability to walk on his paws for the first time.
