Germany: Berlin solidarity protest challenges EU demands on Greece.

Demonstrators gathered in front of the Greek embassy in Berlin on Wednesday, in a show of support for Greeks taking part in a general strike in Athens. The protesters challenged austerity measures imposed on Greece by the EU and IMF.

The protest in Berlin was organised by an anti-fascist group called Antifaschistische Revolutionare Aktion Berlin (ARAB) - a group dedicated to fighting fascism through peaceful protests.

Greece has been experiencing a prolonged economic downturn, leaving more than a quarter of the working-age population unemployed - with about half of all youth looking for work. Receiving a bailout from the European Union, Greece was forced to implement unpopular austerity measures, which prompted massive strikes and protests.
