Julien’s Auctions displayed more than 500 vintage Apple products in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, on Monday, ahead of the auction that will be held on Thursday, March 30.
Footage shows the huge collection of Apple computers and related products dating from 1977 to 2008, belonging to Swiss collector Hanspeter Luzi, at the renowned auction house.
“Not many people have done this type of an auction before. 530 lots going off in one day is incredible, a whole journey of the Apple and the Macintosh. So, it'll be interesting to see how well it does," said Martin Nolan, the Executive Director of Julien’s Auctions.
“We saw recently where a lady sold an iPhone, the first iPhone to come out in its original box, for 63,000 dollars (58,169 euros). Back in November, we sold Steve Jobs' Birkenstock sandals, beat up, worn, grungy Birkenstocks for 218,000 dollars (201,283 euros). So, people actually look into Steve Jobs as a rock star, if you will, because those are rock star prices", said Nolan.
The collection includes Apple's 1983 Lisa computer alongside other Macintosh systems from the '80s, more modern machines like the 2001 iMac G3 and floppy disks, disk drives and monitors.
According to Nolan, the auction of vintage hardware is the new frontier of collectors and it presents a great investment opportunity.
