A fire broke out in a residential building in Khartsyzsk in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) as a result of shelling on Saturday.

The incident was reported by the representative office of the DPR in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire (JCCC). Footage shows partially damaged buildings and emergency workers extinguishing the fire.

According to a local resident, Yana, 'no one was hurt', apart from property damage, since the family living in the house was away.

"Thank goodness the family wasn't in the house at that moment - they were in another city and were only planning to come home with their child today. This is his room, and in the hall, this is the children's room, where his [the child's] toys were. So he would have come right now after a week's absence from home, he would have been here, in this very place," the woman explained.

She added that she wanted to 'save something, to help carry something out, but, as it turned out, there was simply nothing left to save'.

The DPR representative office in the JCCC reported that 'three rockets from multiple rocket launchers (MLRS)' were fired at the settlement.

Later, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DPR reported that the cause of the fire was the impact of an explosive object. According to the ministry, no dead or injured were found.

The JCCC was an organisation set up in 2014 to monitor ceasefire violations and was originally composed of Ukrainian and Russian military officers, although the latter withdrew in 2017. JCCC offices of the DPR and Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) were unilaterally created and still work in the area.

On September 30, 2022, President Vladimir Putin agreed to sign documents allowing the accession of the DPR and Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), as well as the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye, to the Russian Federation.

According to Moscow, it followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.

Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.
