'Gradually coming back to life' - Renovation of civilian infrastructure continues in Volnovakha
As seen in the footage shot on Wednesday and Thursday, the construction and repair of civilian infrastructure damaged by shelling in Volnovakha, Donetsk People's Republic, continues.
Footage features new residential buildings, renovated schools, a kindergarten, a blood transfusion station, and the Palace of Culture named in honor of Hero of Russia Vladimir Zhoga.
Anatoly, a local, said that the city has changed greatly in the last year.
"It is very encouraging to see houses being repaired, roofs being repaired, windows being replaced, broken doors of entrances being replaced, an amazing blood transfusion station being built, and wonderful residential buildings being constructed," a man noted.
Konstantin Zinchenko, the head of Volnovakha District, stated that, with the assistance of the Russian Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Defence, the power supply to residential buildings was fully restored, a gas pipeline was built, and the water supply system was recovered.
Builders from Chelyabinsk Region and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (YNAO) also repaired roads, schools, and kindergartens, he said. A blood transfusion station opened in January with the help of the Department of Construction and Housing Policy, and a railway hospital is under construction.
The Donetsk People’s Republic is one of four regions, also including the Lugansk People’s Republic, Kherson, and Zaporozhye, which President Vladimir Putin agreed to admit to the Russian Federation, signing accession documents on September 30.
According to Moscow, it followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.
Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.
