Wealthy home owners in Los Angeles are purchasing expensive protection dogs at a rapid pace to secure their homes, with some canines fetching as much as $70,000 (€65,220).
At the Delta K9 Academy in North Hollywood, owner Mike Israeli has seen his business flourish since he opened it four years ago. Speaking during an interview, he said protection dogs are the best way to stop home invasions and robberies in America’s second largest city.
Israeli’s company offers four tiers of training including executing maneuvers on different parts of the body, fighting an attacker with a weapon and jumping in and out of cars. One of Israeli's clients, Emen Amarzarian, has three protection dogs which he said make him and his family feel safe in their Southern California home.
Overall crime rose by roughly 12.5 percent in 2022 in Los Angeles compared to the year before with many reportedly experiencing a sense of lawlessness in the city in the last few years.
