٠٠:٠٣:١٠Spain: Bust of Atletico de Madrid legend Luis Aragones unveiled in Madrid
Mayor of Madrid Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida unveiled on Wednesday a bust in memory of the Atletico de Madrid and former national football team coach Luis Aragones in Madrid's Hortaleza district, a few meters from the house where he was born.
As seen in footage, the event was attended by sports leading figures, such as former football player Emilio Butragueno or Atletico de Madrid Football Club President Enrique Cerezo, and Aragones's son, who was named after him.
Almeida remarked how important it was for Aragones to have a tribute in his district's square and stressed the importance of reminding future Madrilenians that "Madrid is a city with a memory, which wants to recognise those who were great in this city".
"Luis [Aragones] belongs to everyone. The values that Luis had, what Luis did, belong to all Madrilenians and all Spaniards, and we will always carry him in our hearts", added Almeida.
Aragones played for Atletico de Madrid Football Club between 1964 and 1974 and coached the club on four occasions. The coach who was also known as 'Luis Aragones, the wise man from Hortaleza' trained the Spanish national football team between 2004 and 2008, winning this last year the Euro Cup with the national football team. He died on 1 February 2014 in Madrid hospital, aged 75.
