Still lovin' it? Former McDonald's outlets rebrand as 'WeOpen' in Almaty… and customers can't tell the difference!
McDonald’s fast food might’ve disappeared across Kazakhstan this month, but the former franchise-holder has quickly reopened existing outlets under a new name and its customers seem to be impressed with the rebrand, as seen in footage from Almaty on Tuesday.
"We've just come in for a meal, we've had a look, there are some changes in the menu, the names are different, but basically everything is exactly the same. Just as tasty and juicy," claimed one visitor, Ilya Mikhailov.
Footage shows the restaurant with its new 'WeOpen' name, but with very familiar layout, seating and food collection counters for drive-through customers.
"We go here quite often with the whole family. We really like the food, it's delicious, and the pricing is convenient, i.e. it's not expensive. We are very happy," said another local, Karlygash Shagirov.
There are currently 12 restaurants in Almaty, and two more have opened in Karaganda and Kostanai.
McDonald’s pulled out of the country earlier this month, citing supply issues. The general director of franchise-holder Food Solutions KZ, Aset Mashanov, said the intention was to get the outlets up and running as soon as possible, while work on the branding continued.
The company has also confirmed that the restaurants will not use the 'Vkusno i Tochka' branding, which replaced McDonald’s outlets across Russia.
