Princess Diana’s favourite dress, worn for her legendary 1997 Vanity Fair shoot, was seen amongst the lots of Sotheby’s 'The One' auction in New York City on Friday, before the sale later this month.

"The high and low on the estimate is $80,000-$120,000. The most recent Victor Edelstein dress that was designed for Princess Diana was sold in 2019 for $347,000," explained the company’s Global Head of Fashion and Accessories, Cynthia Holton. "Ultimately the market will decide what the final price will be."

Footage shows the purple velvet frock designed by Victor Edelstein, as well as an invite from President John F. Kennedy’s birthday party - when Marilyn Monroe popped out of a cake - along with a jersey from basketball star LeBron James’ 2013 finals.

"This is Lebron's 2013 NBA Finals jersey from game seven where he actually clinched his second championship and second back to back finals MVP award … Our estimate for the item is $3-5 million," said Brahm Wachter, vice president & head of streetwear and modern collectables.

The hammer will come down on all the items on January 27.
