Participants of the 2nd 'Children of Asia' International Winter Sports Games attended the flame lighting ceremony in the Lena Pillars Nature Park in the Khangalassky region of Yakutia on Saturday.

The footage shows a Yakut shaman in traditional clothing using stones to cut a spark and light a fire.

President of the 'Children of Asia' International Games Committee Vladimir Maksimov noted that sunny weather during the ritual was a good sign for upcoming competition.

"The most important thing is that the fire was lit without a failure. The main thing is for the custodians now to keep it lit and on February 25 to light the fire cup in the Kuzbass Ice Palace," he added.

The torch relay will start on Sunday in Yakutsk and ends on February 25 at the opening ceremony of the Games in Kemerovo.

According to the press service of the international competition committee, 65 torches in the shape of the katana Japanese sword were made for the relay.

International Sports Games 'Children of Asia' will be held from February 23 to March 5, 2023 in Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Mezhdurechensk and Tashkagol district in the south of Western Siberia. The program includes cross-country skiing, short track, hockey, snowboarding, skiing, figure skating, ski jumping, curling, freestyle and speed skating. Show competitions in volleyball in the snow and cybersports will also take place.

About a thousand athletes under the age of 16 from 13 countries are expected to take part in the games.
