Belief in business: Tokyo bosses and workers pray for health and prosperity on first working day of 2023
Hundreds of people, including business owners and office workers, gathered together to pray for business prosperity and health on the first working day of the New Year, in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Footage features those at the Kanda Myojin shrine, close to business districts such as Marunouchi, with many bowing, praying and throwing coins.
"If you look at Japan, there are many things we can look at it in a positive way, so we are optimistic, I mean we are positive about how we are going to operate the business this year." said Shotaro Itaya, manager of K2 Partnering Solutions K.K.
Thousands of reservations for the shrine are made by companies over the next few days, with that expected to increase to 10,000 by the end of the month.
"My number one goal is to make it a year in which all of our employees, their families, and our customers are happy and smiling," said Koichiro Watanabe, President of Office Lab Inc.
Some admitted that issues from 2022, such as COVID-19 and the Ukraine conflict, were still affecting their lives, but were using their prayers to stay positive.
