China: 'More convenient... but everyone should take care' - Shanghai locals react to easing of COVID-19 rules
Local citizens voiced their opinions in Shanghai on Friday, as the city implemented 10 national guidelines as part of the relaxation of COVID measures.
"For me personally, I think the current epidemic prevention measures will be more convenient, especially for the office workers like me, as we do not need to remember to take nucleic acid test every day," said Xu Meng."From the perspective of epidemic prevention, I think everyone should take care of their own personal hygiene, such as wearing a mask."
According to the new guidelines, PCR tests will not be mandatory at restaurants and indoor entertainment venues from December 9, and will be only required at elderly care centres, child welfare institutions and medical institutes and schools.
The city’s public transport system, as well as malls, restaurants and parks, still require passengers and visitors to scan the location code or show a green health code before entering, but no PCR result is needed.
Liu Shoubi, a restaurant operator in Yangpu District, said the easing of restrictions was taking time to filter through.
“We watched the TV news, saying the restrictions will be gradually lifted. But we haven’t received any notice up till now,” said Shoubi.
Domestic travellers arriving in shanghai are no longer required to take PCR tests, and passengers can also enter and exit the Shanghai Railway Station without checking the PCR test result.
