Shenzhen citizens were relieved on Wednesday after it was announced that commuters would no longer be required to submit test results for travel as nationwide COVID restrictions were eased. The removal of testing booths was also witnessed in Beijing among other areas of China.

Shenzhen announced these new policies after similar steps by Chengdu and Tianjin. People will no longer need to present a negative COVID test result to use public transportation or enter parks, restaurants or shopping malls.

Many testing booths in Shenzhen were seen empty after the announcement. However, the citizens are still mandated to show a green pass for vaccination. "Now it is very convenient to pass through as long as there is a green code, said a citizen."

Another citizen said "the current policy is liberalized. There is no need to do nucleic acid every day, and there is no need to check in and scan codes when entering the community, which has greatly improved our quality of life, the previous policy was rather troublesome for citizens."

The ease in the strict Chinese zero-COVID policy comes after days of protests by citizens against the policies China had implemented earlier to contain the virus.
