The final of the "Calligraphy Performance Grand Prix", a high school calligraphy performance competition was held in Makuhari, Chiba on Sunday.
Thirteen high schools that had won the nationwide preliminary contest competed against each other with strict COVID-19 regulations in place.
The contestants compete in performance, including dance, whilst painting calligraphy on a huge piece of paper measuring 4 meters by 6 meters square. One participant named Sara Kawanishi commented on the experience saying: "I was nervous, but more than anything, I enjoyed the performance from the bottom of my heart and gave it my all."
One of the 15 participating schools that won the regional qualifying rounds withdrew from the event, and one school participated with video footage due to concerns over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
